Radio-active
I had put them to bed
thought they were sleeping
but the heating duct
above my head confesses
She is station 11
on the radio dial
opening the lines
for the request hour
whispered selections
drift from across the hall
In sync and Spice
she sings them all
she slips in the King
with a special dedication
and I no longer mind
that she's radio-active
Labour Day
Remember rhe summer
of the sun
when we spent
three hot months in love
How the thunderheads
were turrets of our castle
as we lay upon
our white sand carpet
and fireflires flickered
above our heads
as we whispered our desire
to spend our lives together
Remember how September
stole away our dreams?
Whispers
From out of the darkness
across the moonlit waters
the errie cry of the spotted loon carries
mixes with the chuckle
of liquid like shadows
playing along the shore
and high above
in the indigo sky
ice lights dance
among the stars
whispering
whispering
just loud enough
to be
heard
Marshmallow Music
From the embers of the fire
soft songs drift
while a guitar gently carries
the melody for shadow voices
bearing marshmallow torches
even the moon
pauses to listen
nestled in the arms
of the tall evergreen
yet when Dawn arrives
all she finds
are sticky gray ashes
of burnt out lyrics
Virgin Island
Day is drifting
over the horizion
as she calls to me
from the sun stained waters
inviting me to dine
on blue green mallard
stuffed with wild rice
and purple berries
plucked from her shores
she seduces me
when I lay my head
upon her day
warmed breast
and I am lost
in the fragrance
of her virginity
as she sings to me
in the soft
sad voice
of the wind
HandPrints
Beyond the wall of candles
within a ring of shadows
a child cries
announcing its arrival
to those that wear the habit
in the Church of the Singing Nuns
they fall to their knees
begin to pray at fever speed
seeking forgivness for their sister
confused by her denial
convinced by their faith
this is the Devils Child
for the innocent then
no songs are sung
no prayers are said
the unused well its cradle.......
Years go by the Church is gone
the trees removed
and now a road runs
beside the well
and Believers stop to offer prayer
perhaps leave a teddy bear
for the innocent one who died there
unaware before going on their way
little handprints will appear
on their vehicle somewhere

Cruising
She don't drive too bad
for being eighty-five
and having only
one good eye
and not much use
laying on the horn
to let her know
that you want by
because she likely forgot
her hearing aid again
and has the volume cranked
on that "Jesus Saves" radio show
so you'll just have to wait
for a traffic break
before you cruise by
doing thirty-five
